The province of Alicante leads the sale of housing, only behind Madrid and Barcelona

Alicante has become the Spanish province with the highest number of homes sold to foreigners.

The Comunitat Valenciana has led the real estate activity in Spain in the first quarter of the year with 3.32 transactions of sale of houses per thousand inhabitants, above the state average, located in 2.46 acquisitions.

According to Real Estate Registry Statistics for the First Quarter of 2017, 16,390 operations were registered in the first quarter of the year, accounting for 20.5% more than the same period in 2016, according to data from the Association of Property Registrars.

This number of sales represents 14.4% of the national total, the fourth place after Andalusia, Catalonia and Madrid. These four communities accounted for more than 65% of operations registered in Spain in this period.

Of the total, 2,244 operations corresponded to new housing and 14,146 to used housing, and the province of Alicante, with 8,416 sales, was placed as the third Spanish province preceded by Madrid and Barcelona, while Valencia occupied the fifth place (6,317) and Castellón reached 1,657 operations.

The Valencian Community was the third region with the greatest weight of foreigners in the sale of housing (25.97%), surpassed by the Canary Islands (34.09%) and the Balearic Islands (31.71%).

Alicante comes in second with 41.10% of the total and Castellón occupies the tenth place of the provincial classification with a 14.02%, while Valencia remains at 9.21%.

More operations than ever made by foreigners.

According to data from the Association of Property Registrars, more properties were sold in this province for this type of clients than in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia together. In particular, from January to March 2017 a total of 8,416 homes have been sold in the province.
