News: Elche-Alicante airport figures continue to grow in 2016
According to the latest passenger number figures published by Aena (the state-owned company managing general interest airports and heliports in Spain), the Elche-Alicante airport handled 19% more passengers in January 2016 than in the same month last year, amounting to 593,150.
The report also shows a 21% rise in the number of passengers on domestic flights, whereas there has been a 18% rise in the number of people on international flights to and from Elche-Alicante airport.
In fact, more than a third of all passengers using this airport last month were in flights between the Costa Blanca and the UK with a total of 216,000, followed by connections with Germany (46,000 passengers), the Netherlands (40,600), Belgium (37,300), Norway (32,700) and Algeria (19,000).
In the whole of Spain, a total of 12.9 million people travelled to and from the country's airports, an increase of 12.3% compared to the first month of 2015. This represents an indication that the tourism growth is set to continue in 2016.
The Elche-Alicante airport is only 30 minutes drive from the beaches of Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja.
