News: ​New dog-friendly beach opens in Santa Pola

As of last weekend the town of Santa Pola in Costa Blanca South has opened a new dog-friendly beach with more than 60 dogs enjoying the opening day.

The "Caleta dels Gossets" in the Cape of Santa Pola area thus becomes the first dog-friendly beach of the region and the second in the province. The first pet-friendly beach ever made available for use in the province of Alicante is located up north in El Campello.

Pet lovers have been calling for many years for a spot where everyone could enjoy the sea and the outdoor life. Many early risers took advantage of this new service during the weekend to spend the day with their dogs.

There was a guard on site responsible for checking that all the dogs were carrying the compulsory microchip and controlling that the pets were up to date with their vaccines. Also, the local police took control of the area during the first days of opening, with the aim of ensuring that safety standards were respected. Dogs with infectious diseases, estrous females and unvaccinated pups are not allowed to enter the beach.

Another dog-friendly beach is expected to open in the near future in Torrevieja.
