News: ​Orihuela Costa launches recycling campaign

Last Saturday 28 November Residents of the Orihuela Costa and residents of the city of Orihuela participated in a new recycling campaign launched by the Orihuela Town Hall to encourage residents and tourists, as well as businesses, to recycle their garbage.

This activity was organized in collaboration with Ecoembes (the non profit organisation in charge of recycling most part of the packaging in Spain), and it took place simultaneously in the parking lot next to Zenia Boulevard shopping center and in the Glorieta Gabriel Miró park of the city. In both places a blue and a yellow tent were installed with the corresponding containers for recycling.

People who visited both sites received a present as an expression of thanks for their cooperation. As Noelia Grao -the Head of the Department of Street Cleaning at the Orihuela Town Hall- said, this campaign aims at "raising awareness on the benefits of this environmentally friendly practice". The objective is to increase the amount of garbage from the municipality that was recycled last year.

The message of sustainability released through the campaign is based on the idea that we cannot keep on consuming resources and discarding them after use, but that we need to commit ourselves to reusing the resources instead.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., all visitors received brochures with detailed information on this campaign, which due to its success is likely to be repeated in coming years.
