When it comes to conserving water in your Costa Blanca home, there are a few tips that can help you save on your consumption if you know how to.

A five minute shower consumes approximately 90 litres of water. Leaving the tap open while washing your hands for around 1 minute uses 10 litres of water. Every time you flush the toilet you are using between 5 and 12 litres of water. Reducing water consumption is essential for the environment and it also helps your pocket:

- While you wait for hot water in the shower, collect the running water and use it to water your garden plants.

- Check your faucets and showerheads for leaks. One drip every second adds up to 19 litres a day.

- Turn off the water while washing your hair and save up to 550 litres a month.

- Use a pool cover to help clean your swimming pool clean, reduce chemical use and prevent water loss through evaporation.

- Do not water your lawn on windy days when most of the water evaporates or blows away.

- When shopping for a new washing machine, compare resource savings. Some can save up to 75 litres per load.
